about

I like to imagine that I 'found' this song in an old manuscript somewhere... 'Lollen' is an old English word meaning 'mumbled prayer' and 'Bullen' was the nickname given to Anne Boleyn. 'The Bull' I sing about is Henry the Eighth. I imagined three women rowing Anne down the Thames to her death and singing this lament, with a solo for Anne herself.

The artwork here is my cartoon for the song - I usually do one for every song.

lyrics

Lollen

Lollen for Bullen
Lollen for Bullen….mmmmm

‘River wide and slow
Treachery in the undertow’

Lollen for Bullen
Lollen for Bullen….mmmmm

‘This is how he loved me
This is how he love me, so’

Lollen for Bullen
Lollen for Bullen….mmmmm

‘This is how he brought me
This is how he brought me, low’

Lollen for Bullen
Lollen for Bullen….mmmmm

‘There’s the garden where I used to hide
He used to find me
I’d always say ‘no’
He used to find me…’

(From the middle of the maze
Row for the Bull and the Bullen betrayed)

Lollen for Bullen
Lollen for Bullen….mmmmm

‘I used to hide
And always say no
He used to find me and never let me go’

(From the middle of the maze
Row for the Bull and the Bullen betrayed)

Lollen for Bullen
Lollen for Bullen….mmmmm

‘Treachery in the undertow’
